Noble Estate

Noble Estate is a boutique olive grove on the Kapiti Coast and is situated on the sun-drenched slopes overlooking the sea at Waikanae. The Coast enjoys a moderate climate well suited to olives.

The grove was established in 1996 and first production was in 2002. We have near 400 trees with our main variety being Mission, not very common in New Zealand – it is of Californian origin. We also have Frantoio trees, and we produce two single varietal oils.

Since that year we have produced delicious buttery, fruity, grassy oil and in recent years have consistently won medals in the Olives NZ Awards. We have our oils certified through Olives NZ Certification programme which ensures we are producing premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Old Hautere Road

Premium boutique extra virgin olive oil crafted in Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast

The special microclimate of this region together with the stony silt loams of the Hautere Plain produce high quality olive oil. The main olives we grow are the Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Leccino and the Greek olive Koroneiki. Our blended olives produce an oil with a flavour profile of crisp and grassy balanced with fruity flavours and a slight peppery aftertaste.

Perfect as a finishing oil over salads, fish or vegetables as well as a dip for freshly baked bread.

Old Hautere Road oil is certified by Olives NZ which means it meets the high standards required to be classified NZ Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Oil is available in 100ml, 250ml and 1.25 litre bottles and can be purchased directly from us or through selected local stockists.

Waikōkopu Grove and Orchard

Waikōkopu Grove and Orchard is located just off State Highway 1 in Kuku, Horowhenua. Our grove flourishes behind the former Kuku Dairy Cooperative – a landmark heritage complex that from 1913 was a Māori-owned enterprise. Ngāti Tukorehe of Kuku has a long history of feeding people well. Back in the 1830s around the coastal Ōhau River area, our people raised pigs, grew gardens, fruit orchards and grain crops to support traders, whalers and the burgeoning city of Wellington. Upon this ancestral legacy, our hapū shareholder’s developed our hinterland farm in 1974, which continues today.

Fast forward to 2006 when the 7 hectares surrounding the dairy factory were purchased. As a direct descendant of key Ngāti Tukorehe horticultural leaders, Huhana Smith, partner Richard Anderson, Māori relations and friends planted the main grove Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino varieties on what was a former Ōhau River bed. Our revitalising Waikōkopu Stream flows alongside the grove, hence the name. From 2016, Syrian New Zealanders have also brought expertise to the grove.

Our label design reflects a holistic ‘mountains to sea’ perspective. We draw upon local Māori knowledge of place to ensure that we create a healthier economic, cultural, social and environmentally sustainable turangawaewae (place to stand) for future generations. Our grove exercises kaitiakitanga (environmental care and protection) of our whenua (lands) and awa (waterways) in order to ensure high quality produce that is distributed locally and regionally – like our ancestors before us.

Due to changes in how we now interact, our olive oil can be delivered safely to your door (around Horowhenua and Wellington). Contactless pick up at the Kuku gate too from Thursday to Sunday only.

Contact: Director – Huhana Smith for all details.
