Press Release.

The Royal Easter Show is proud to announce the winners of the annual Royal Easter Show Olive Oil Awards 2010, with NUMBER 29 – Waiheke taking out the Supreme Champion Award and winning the Royal Easter Show Logan Campbell Trophy and a Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand Supreme Champion medal.

These awards, judged on Monday 16th August 2010 were reinstated as an annual event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Auckland Showgrounds.

The Royal Easter Show Olive Oil Awards is a competition that is consumer focused, much like New Zealand’s oldest wine show, the annual Royal Easter Show Wine Awards. With this consumer focus, olives must be grown in New Zealand and be available for sale here. Entrants also needed to represent production batches of at least 50 litres.

Judges included Philip Dixon, a leading food importer and distributor who has been involved in the food industry for 17 years; Dr Laurence Eyres who runs his own contracting/consulting business for the Food Industry, specialising in oils and fats; Simon Sheehan, classically trained chef from the UK who is the Executive Chef at ASB Showgrounds; and Vic Williams, who is Cellar Director for the New Zealand Wine Society, New Zealand wine consultant for Cathay Pacific Airways and wine and food editor for the Wine, Food & Art book series in New Zealand and Australia.
